It had to be a sickening feeling of deja vu for Matt Thissen.
And the Golden Valley girls basketball coach was powerless to do anything about it.
Friday night's showdown with Turlock played out almost identically to the game the two teams had played a month prior.
Right down to Turlock's buzzer-beating shot to end the opening half.

For a quarter and a half, a determined GV squad gave the Central California Conference leaders all it could handle -- building a seven-point lead with just under three minutes to go in the first half.
And then ...
Everything fell apart in an eerily similar manner.
Turlock (8-1 CCC, 20-4) closed the second quarter with an 11-0 run to take the lead, then broke the game open with an 11-0 run to open the second half.
GV never recovered and Turlock cruised to a 49-30 victory at Cougar Arena.
"I can't believe I watched what I watched," a stunned Thissen said. "We played an outstanding game for a quarter and a half, then we couldn't hit a shot.
"We couldn't shoot from the outside all night. And it didn't matter if it was free throws or lay-ups, we couldn't make them.
"Then we allowed what was happening to us offensively to affect us on defense."
Rachel Finnegan single-handedly brought Turlock back into the fold, sparking the decisive 22-0 run with eight of her 12 points in the second quarter.
Once Finnegan got hot, her teammates followed suit.
Camille Roberts had a game-high 14 points and Christian Richardson added 12.
"Finnegan's a sparkplug," Turlock coach Salinda Mendoza-Mabie said. "She has the ability to take the game over.
"And tonight her teammates were waiting for her to do so."
GV (6-4 CCC, 13-12) jumped out a 20-13 lead, but hit just one shot from the field in the final 25 minutes.
Golden Valley shot 1-for-23 in the second half and leading scorer Surman Purewall (nine points) didn't have a single bucket from the field.
"We talked about not letting them blow us out again in the third quarter at halftime," guard Porsha Grayson said. "But I don't know who the team was that took the court in the second half."
