Thanoi's shooting may have been in retaliation for the early-February stabbing of a Dos Palos teenager about a block away but the detective isn't sure the victim was involved.
No arrests have been made in the homicide but officers are interviewing persons of interest and possible suspects.
Several persons wearing dark clothing are believed responsible and fled on foot to a car parked around the corner.
