"They have some very athletic guys," Merced coach Marcus Knott said. "Their team is built very similar to ours.
"They're very guard-strong, they like to get out and run and they like to trap."
Edison reached the second round after defeating No. 9 Sacramento Kennedy 64-60 on Friday.
Senior Trumaine Johnson led the way with 18 points. Teammate Brandon Pascual hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.
"We're not going to be able to focus on one or two guys," Knott said. "We have to play solid defense.
"We can't give up the wide-open (3-pointer) because they have some guys that can knock it down.
"We can't turn the ball over and give up the easy points in transition."
Merced defeated Modesto 76-61 in the first round behind Allen Huddleston's 27 points.
The Merced-Edison winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the Downey-Folsom game.
That semi would be played Thursday at 4 p.m. at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
The section final is also at Arco -- 8:30 on Saturday night.
