Rob Scheidt, who has led the Merced High School football team to a 31-5 record and two Central California Conference titles in the past three seasons, will remain as the team's head coach.
Scheidt said Tuesday that he notified state powerhouse Clovis West that although he was flattered by their interest, he had chosen not to pursue their coaching opening.
Scheidt cited the Merced High environment and support as well as his roots and comfort with the city itself in turning down the opportunity at a job that could have paid him up to $40,000 a year more.
