Identity of woman killed in Sunday crash released

Martha Alicia Vazquez-Meza, 38, of Chowchilla, died Sunday morning when the 1993 Chevrolet Blazer she was riding in blew a tire, went out of control and overturned on Road 16 south of Avenue 17 in the Madera area, California Highway Patrol officers said.

Officer Ronnie Lopez, CHP public affairs officer for the Madera office, said an 11-year-old Chowchilla boy also died in the 9:30 a.m. accident. Lopez declined to identify the boy because he is a minor. They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Vazquez-Meza and the boy were passengers in the Blazer driven by Javier L. Vasquez, 40, of Chowchilla. Vazquez was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Javier M. Vazquez, 7, of Chowchilla, also a passenger in the vehicle, was listed in fair condition Monday at the Fresno hospital. Jesus Vazquez, 60, of Chowchilla, received minor injuries in the accident.
