Save now on carnival rides, admission

MERCED – Saving money rocks and there's still time for fairgoers to take a big bite out of the cost of enjoying the thrills and chills of the 2008 Merced County Fair's Carnival rides.

Not only can fairgoers save big bucks on the fun at the fair's Carnival and Kiddieland, but there's a new discount on general admission tickets! Advance sale carnival discount coupons and advance sale discount general admission tickets are on sale now at the Merced County Fairgrounds Office and online at the fair's website, www.MercedCountyFair.com through 5 p.m. Monday, July 14.

Advance sale carnival discount coupons and advance sale discount general admission tickets also are on sale at the Merced Mall Customer Service Desk and the tickets will be sold at the Merced Flea Market the first two Saturdays in July. The fair is July 15-20.

This offer takes a huge slice out of the cost of carnival rides with incredible savings on advance sale carnival discount coupons. Pay-one-price coupons that can be exchanged for an unlimited ride wrist wrap any one day of the fair are available in advance for $20. That's a giant savings of $8 per person compared to the cost of pay-one-price wrist wraps bought after July 14.

Discount general admission tickets (13 years and over) are just $6, a 25% savings compared to tickets purchased during the fair. There are no discount tickets available for child admission. Child admission (6 to 12 years) is $3 and children aged 5 and under get in free to the fair daily. But buying child admission tickets ahead of time will save time waiting at the gate.

During the fair, pay-one-price wrist wraps will cost $28 each. The bracelets are good for one day of unlimited rides, all day, any day of the fair. At fairtime, general admission tickets (13 years and over) are $8.

Butler Amusements, Inc., the largest carnival company in the Western United States, returns to the Merced County Fair again this year.

"Come Rock With The Flock," is the theme of the 2008 Merced County Fair, a salute to sheep, one of Merced County's top agricultural products. Lots of Carnival and Kiddieland fun await fairgoers with more than 30 family and kiddie rides and cutting edge attractions.

Among the rides scheduled to be at the fair is "The Viper," which is new to the Merced County Fair and is Butler Amusement's newest ride. It's a colossal ride with a brilliant, green snake theme that takes riders on a whirlwind journey. The large arm across the top of the ride tilts and spins and at each end of the giant arm are two clusters holding two-part seating which spins independently as well. The open air design allows riders to experience spectacular twirling views. The Viper seats 24 passengers and uses state-of-the art shoulder bars.

Fairgoers also will enjoy the "Tornado," which is a different ride than the one at the 2007 Fair. The new Tornado consists of eight uniquely designed spherical passenger vessels each with a capacity for four riders. Each vessel has a centrally located steering wheel, which allows the passengers to spin the cars on their own. The Tornado lifts 71/2 feet into the air and tilts 20 degrees for a terrific ride sensation.

At Kiddieland -- the new family ride -- one of the rides that parents and children can ride together, is the Dizzy Dragon. The four magical dragons each have a giant steering wheel inside the dragon's belly that passengers can turn to spin themselves around while the entire ride revolves as well. The ride is billed as "a great introduction for ride enthusiasts in training before stepping up to the "Tilt A Whirl."
