Trade clears way for Ryan
Dusty Ryan moved one step closer to the Major Leagues when the Detoit Tigers traded Ivan Rodriguez to the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
The former Golden Valley and Merced College catcher was promoted to Triple-A Toledo.
Ryan hit a home run in his final game for Double-A Eerie on Wednesday.
Ryan hit .253 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs.
The Tigers promoted Dane Sardinha from Toledo to Detroit.
Ryan now could just be an injury away from making his major league debut.

Leonardo Davis (Dos Palos)
The former Dos Palos star snapped an 0-for-10 skid with a pair of hits on Tuesday. Davis is hitting .263 in his last 10 games at Columbus.
Jake Jefferies (BC)
Single-A Short, Rays
Jefferies has put together a seven-game hitting streak to raise his average to .286. He has one homer and 19 RBIs on the year.
Doug Fister (GV and MC)
Fister has pitched better after the all-star break, giving up just five earned runs in his last three starts. However, he hasn't received any run support and has watched his record fall to 5-12 with a 5.05 ERA.
Omar Aguilar (Liv., MC)
The hard-throwing right-hander has given up just one earned run in his last six outings. Aguilar struck out five batters in his last 2 1/3 innings.
Curtis Partch (Merced, MC)
The right-hander continues to rack up strikeouts at a high rate. Partch has 11 punchouts in his last 11 innings.
Thomas Eager (Merced)
Class-A Short, Cardinals
The former Merced star picked up his first win since July 6 on Wednesday. Eager is 2-3 with a 2.12 ERA at Batavia.
Eddie Gamboa (Merced)
Gamboa gave up just one earned run in seven innings in a no-decision on Saturday.
The right-hander is 1-2 with a 2.52 ERA at Bluefield.
