ATWATER -- A sluggish start was almost expected.
Golden Valley coach Chris Tufts knew his team hadn't let go of Tuesday's tough loss to Turlock.
Porsha Grayson and company shook out of their funk in the second half Thursday night against Buhach Colony.
Grayson scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second half as GV ran away with a 58-40 win.
"Porsha has been very unselfish this year," said Golden Valley coach Chris Tufts, whose team improved to 2-1 in the Central California Conference and 8-10 overall.
"At times, she's put us on her back and carried us."
Tufts watched his team crumble against BC's full-court press in the second quarter.
Aly Gleason scored 13 of her 22 points in the second quarter to help Buhach Colony (0-3 CCC) take a 27-23 lead at half.
The game was tied 28-28 when BC's Yana Li went down with a knee injury.
The game was delayed 45 minutes as Li was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Buhach Colony never recovered.
Golden Valley immediately went on an 18-5 run to open up a 48-33 lead with 6:16 left in the fourth quarter.
Grayson scored 10 points during the stretch.
"We knew we had to get going because we couldn't afford to lose," Grayson said.
Becky Morris helped shoulder the scoring load with 16 points for GV.
Both teams combined for 41 fouls and 46 free-throw attempts.
"Ugly, but it's a win," Tufts said. "I was afraid we'd have a hangover after the Turlock game.
"We played a tough game. The scored didn't show that."
