Turlock's arsenal of shooters can be contained.
The Merced girls basketball team showed that on Tuesday evening.
Containing them for four quarters, well, that's another matter.
Merced watched a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter quickly become a big deficit as Turlock erupted for 24 points in the second.

Kayla Schumann led the onslaught scoring 10 of her game-high 22 points in the second and Turlock cruised to a 66-33 victory.
"We did a good job playing defense and rebounding in the first quarter," Merced coach Brad Reed said. "They have a lot of good shooters, though, and you can't make mistakes against a team that good."
Merced's combination of limiting Turlock (8-0 Central California Conference, 20-3) to one shot per possession and driving to the basket offensively allowed it to build a 12-11 lead at the end of one quarter.
Merced's winning formula, however, couldn't be sustained.
Turlock began crashing the offensive glass, and with the extra chances, shots began to fall.
"We weren't able to close out, which is something we work on in practice," Merced forward Lauren Lily said. "We really wanted to beat them, but we let them get hot."
Turlock took a 35-21 lead into the half, but opened the second half frigid.
Led by Shelly Blackwell (10 points), Merced cut the lead to nine heading into the final quarter.
That's as close as it got.
Turlock continued its dominance on the boards (45-27) and Merced crumbled in the fourth.
Candace Sakuda (13 points and 12 rebounds) and Rachel Finnegan (14 points and 11 rebounds) led a 24-0 Turlock run to close the game.
Lily and Rachel Turner each added seven points in the loss for Merced.
"Sometimes when you fall behind you don't move as fast as you should," Reed said. "We were able to make a little run in the third quarter, but the effort wasn't there in the fourth."
