The Merced County district attorney was taken to the hospital Monday night after he rolled his Ford pickup truck into Bear Creek, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Gordon Spencer was driving west on South East Bear Creek Drive, about a mile east of McKee Road, at about 5 p.m., CHP Public Information Officer Shane Ferriera said.
For unknown reasons, Spencer let the Ford F-150 pickup truck drift off the road and into the creek, he said.
Escaping from the truck, Spencer crossed the creek and climbed out, Ferriera said, where Spencer called relatives who took him to the hospital.

Ferriera said he didn't know what injuries Spencer received, but the CHP Web site said the victim in the crash had minor injuries.
Spencer was the only person in the truck, Ferriera said.
The Merced County Sheriff's dive team responded to make sure no one else was in the truck, he said.
It does not appear drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Ferriera said.
