Keith Hunter can't walk into Cougar Arena without looking at the large banner hanging over the doorway.
Pictured on the banner is Golden Valley's 1997 Sac-Joaquin Section title team.
He pointed up to the banner after practice on Wednesday.
"I told them there are only a couple memories in my life that I look back and think that was the best feeling in the world," Hunter said.
"Getting married was a great day and it has been wonderful ever since. Another memory is my son being born.
"Winning that section title is right below those two. It's an incredible feeling."
Golden Valley (25-4) will try to take another step toward that goal tonight when it plays Elk Grove Franklin (22-7) in the Division I semifinals at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Golden Valley knocked off Sheldon 76-72 on Tuesday, despite being out-rebounded 41-22.
Hunter's boys face another team with size in Franklin.
"We're going to have to play defense and rebound," Hunter said. "We can't get lucky like that two games in a row."
A win would send GV into the section title game on Saturday at Arco Arena at 8:30 p.m.
