Jamicheal Turner is in no hurry.
The Merced College defensive back has waited more than two months for a new Blue Devils head football coach to be named.
What difference does a few more days make?
Turner's teammates seemed to be of the same opinion.
The returning Blue Devils gathered together on Friday afternoon in the MC weight room for their daily lifting regiment.
While everyone on campus had hoped a decision would be made by the school on Friday, the players and assistant coaches kept it business as usual.
"I don't want them to just pick the first guy," Turner said. "I'm fine with the school taking its time and making sure we get the right coach.
"We would have liked to know today, but hopefully this means they have a lot of good options and it's a tough choice."
School officials don't expect a decision to be made until at least Monday.
The six finalists were on campus on Wednesday for interviews with the Merced College selection committee.
A few were even spotted getting tours of the campus after their interviews and meeting with members of the current Blue Devil coaching staff.
The committee was supposed to make its recommendations to Merced College President Dr. Benjamin T. Duran by Thursday, with Duran ultimately making the final call.
"We want to get going, but we can be patient," defensive tackle Leon Jackson said. "We've been told it's supposed to happen soon.
"As long as we get a good coach, they can take their time."
