Buhach goalie Gleason CCC MVP

Buhach Colony girls soccer coach Ashley Dinwoodie wanted to surprise her goalie Aly Gleason.

Keeping the news that Gleason was selected as the Central California Conference Most Valuable Player wasn't easy.

"My coach and my mom are good friends," Gleason said. "Keeping that from my mom wasn't easy.

"Our assistant coach, Gaeton (Faraone) had to take her phone away. She finally let me know at our team banquet. It was a huge surprise. I wasn't expecting it at all."

It was a surprise because Buhach Colony finished in the middle of the pack in the CCC with a 4-4-4 record.

"I kept on thinking what I was going to say when I nominated her," Dinwoodie said. "I just kept thinking about the three words MVP stands for and that's Aly."

It was a nice award for the Stanford-bound senior.

"It's good to be recognized for all the hard work," Gleason said. "It's been quite a journey. Our school hasn't been the winningest team, but it's help me become a better goalie."

Merced's Brooke Wilson was named the CCC Coach of the Year after leading Merced to its first ever playoff appearance.

Merced landed three players on the all-CCC first team in Tina Benson, Alexa Lawler and Stephanie Isenberg.

Golden Valley's Vanesa Vega, BC's Jennifer Ramos and Atwater's Chloe Magneson joined the Merced trio on the first team.
