Police seized weapons and drugs in one incident and a concealed weapon in another last week.
On Sept. 13 at 7:24 p.m., police found an illegal expandable baton in the car of Damien Cobian, 36, of Los Banos, Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said.
Cobian was stopped for speeding in the 500 Block of Pacheco Boulevard, Reyna said, and an officer noticed the baton in the driver-side door compartment.
A vehicle search yielded 14 grams of powder cocaine, with a street value of $800, and 56 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of $3,000, police said.
Cobian was booked into the Los Banos Police Department Jail for suspected possession of an illegal weapon as well as several drug-related charges.
Cobian posted bail and is scheduled to appear at the Merced County Court on Oct. 13.
Police recovered a gun in the possession of a juvenile last Friday.
Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said the Los Banos Police Department responded to the 200 Block of Louie Street after a report of a fight at 10:52 p.m. Sept. 9.
Officer Mane Leao arrived and stopped a 17-year-old male who was attempting to flee the area, Reyna said.
The officer discovered a gun in the juvenile's waistband and placed the 17-year-old under arrest, police said.
The juvenile was transported to the Merced County Juvenile Hall facility, where he was booked on suspicion of possession of a loaded concealed firearm, Reyna said.
"We were able to recover this gun because good concerned citizens called 9-1-1 and reported this incident," Reyna said.
"This is exactly what it takes for the police and community to combat crime."
