Taste of Merced County: Time for polenta

The Italian Catholic Federation, Branch No. 39, Merced, will serve a polenta and chicken cacciatore dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Italo American Lodge Hall, 18th and U streets, Merced.

The dinner will be served family style for a donation of $12 for adults, $6 for children younger than 12. Coffee and wine will be included.

Proceeds go to scholarships and other community programs. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Dine for agriculture

The 33rd Annual Farm City Banquet will be on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Merced County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

The social starts at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m., catered by the Golden Valley FFA. The purpose of this event is to award leaders in agriculture and to honor future agricultural leaders.

Breakfast for a cause

The Merced Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4327, serves breakfast on the third Saturday of each month in the east wing of the Veterans Memorial Building, 939 W. Main in Merced.

This month's breakfast will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17. Scrambled eggs, pancakes and sausage with coffee and orange juice will be served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Tickets are $5. Proceeds will be donated to Modesto Post 3199 to help rebuild their post that was destroyed by fire last August.

Dine free on Thanksgiving

The Mount Olive Mission Baptist Church, 559 Broadway in Atwater, will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner as one of its annual outreach programs.

The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22. Dinner may be eaten at the church or taken out and eaten at home. If you do not have transportation, dinner can be delivered in the Atwater area only.

Shopping for the season

The Merced United Methodist Woman will have its 77th annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the church, 899 Yosemite Park Way in Merced.

A luncheon will begin at noon in Wesley Hall.

The Sunday school classrooms will be transformed into a candy shop, Christmas decor shop, jelly room, bake shop and a linens and lace boutique.

The music room will become come Attic Treasures, where guests can find gently-used bargains, and the fireside room will become Mattie's Tea Room, where shoppers can rest and enjoy a piece of homemade pie or cake with coffee or tea.

A silent auction will take place in the library.
