Four children who were reported missing from Dos Palos last week have been recovered in Louisiana, where authorities have arrested a man and a woman who were with them, Dos Palos police said Sunday.
U.S. marshals arrested Joseph Moreno, who is the subject of a sexual assault investigation, and Penny Rascon “after an intense man hunt,” police said in a statement.
The four children had been reported as having last been seen Aug. 21. A notice released by police identified them as Canyon Hall, 8; Blake Hall, 7; Haylee Hall, 6; and Pauline Hall, 4.
The Dos Palos Police Department said a warrant was issued for Moreno’s arrest on Aug. 22 when it received a report of the sexual assault of a minor.
Police said the alleged victim in the case was about the same age as the four Hall children, putting them “at high risk” of potential abuse.
Upon being located by U.S. marshals, the four children were placed in the care of Louisiana Social Services pending their return to California.
Moreno and Rascon will be extradited to California after each has a hearing in Louisiana, police said.
“With the assistance of the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children, we were able to put a powerful team together that led to this arrest,” the statement said.
