Weekly report shows rice harvest almost done, new alfalfa being planted

A report on crop conditions for Merced County for the week ending Oct. 17 has been released by the Merced County Agricultural Commissioner's office.

Weed control spraying continues to be done on small grain fields. Rice harvest is almost complete.

The eighth cutting of alfalfa continues, along with rye, dry bean and silage corn harvests. New alfalfa planting continues. Cotton defoliation is winding down.

Almond, pistachio, walnut, wine grape, fig and raisin harvests continue. Freezer bean and sweet potatoes are being harvested. Parsley, cantaloupe and watermelon harvests are winding down. Honeydew harvest is complete.

Supplemental feeding of hay and nutrients to livestock continues.
