Weekly crop report shows many harvests continuing

A report on crop conditions for Merced County for the week ending Oct. 24 has been released by the Merced County Agricultural Commissioner’s office.

The rice harvest is complete. The eighth cutting of alfalfa continues, and dry bean and silage corn harvests also continue. New alfalfa planting continues, and the cotton harvest is continuing.

Almond, pistachio, walnut, wine grape, fig and raisin harvests continue.

Sweet potato harvest is ongoing. Parsley, cantaloupe, and watermelon harvests are winding down. Radicchio harvest has begun.

Pasture and range conditions are good, with supplemental feeding of hay and nutrients to livestock continuing.-- Carol Reiter
