Atwater High FFA takes fourth in nation in horse evaluation competition

The Atwater High School FFA won a gold award at the 2010 National FFA Horse Career Development event in Indianapolis, placing fourth-highest overall in the nation.

Atwater was one of 46 state teams competing. The finals were held with the 83rd National FFA convention. The horse evaluation is a competitive activity that tests students' ability to select and evaluate horses.

The team from California was represented by Atwater High School FFA members Nikki Schiber, Sasha DelMuro, Briana Hamamoto and Jackie Vasquez. In the competition, the team from Wyoming placed first, Oklahoma second, Texas third, California fourth and Colorado fifth.

Schiber earned a $1,000 scholarship for placing sixth overall individually.
