A field day for almond growers will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 at the Chris Cardella Ranch, Avenue 7 and Road 6 in Firebaugh.
The free event will cover the latest information about sampling for orchard pests such as navel orangeworm, pruning assessments to improve yields and dormant season practices to reduce fungicide use.
Featured speakers will be entomologist Walt Bentley of the University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management program; David Doll, a UC Cooperative Extension farm adviser in Merced who's the creator of the "Almond Doctor" blog; and Mario Viveros a UC Cooperative Extension emeritus.
The field day is sponsored by the San Joaquin Sustainable Farming Project. For more information, call (530) 370-5325.
