Merced Organics, the health food market that opened last November on West 18th Street, will shut its doors Nov. 11.
Owner Rose Vitale said the store suffered from the 18th street reconstruction project. She said it was about a $30,000 loss.
The store is Merced’s only health food store. In a previous Sun-Star article, Vitale said she hoped to educate the area on eating healthy while providing a diverse array of organic products close to downtown.
The reconstruction project included the repaving of 18th and Canal streets, temporarily rerouting traffic. The construction took place on 18th Street between G Street and N Street. New storm drains were also installed. The project was supposed to begin in November of last year, but it was pushed back to January of this year because business owners didn't want construction during the holiday season. The project was delayed by a month or two because of bad weather over the winter.
