Two Oakhurst residents were killed in a head-on collision Friday with an alleged impaired driver that shut down a section of Highway 145 in Madera County for several hours.
Karrie Lynn Peterson, 51, and Heidi Lynn Vanzeyl, 53, were identified Monday as the victims by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
They died when the 2013 Hyundai Accent that Peterson was driving and the 2013 Ford Fusion that Vanzeyl was traveling in as a passenger crashed into one another around 10:41 a.m. Friday, the CHP reported.
An investigation indicated Sasha Watson, the driver of the Fusion, was driving impaired and was placed under arrest.

Watson, 27, was passing west in the eastbound lane over a double yellow line when she collided with the Hyundai Accent, the CHP reported. The Accent ignited, starting a small grass fire that was extinguished relatively quickly, the CHP reported.
Peterson and Vanzeyl were pronounced dead at the scene.
Peterson was driving alone and Vanzeyl was one of three passengers inside the Fusion.
Watson and the two other passengers, 14-year-old Aaliyah Fedak and 16-year-old Jayden Vanzeyl, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center and treated for major injuries.
Highway 145 was closed for approximately 3.5 hours.
