Man stabbed outside McDonalds airlifted to hospital

A man was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto on Sunday night after he was stabbed several times in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant on Childs Avenue near Highway 99, Merced Police Department Sgt. Bob Chapman said.

Jesse Rojas, 21, was exiting the McDonald's with his brother when three Latino males in their 20s attacked him, stabbing him several times in the back and shoulders, Chapman said.

"He did lose a lot of blood," Chapman said. "But he was lucid and talking to the officers."Prior to the attack, witnesses stated that the Rojas and his brother were involved in a verbal altercation with the three suspects and exchanged gang slurs, Chapman said.

Police have singled out one of the three suspects they think is responsible for the assault, a male between 6 foot and 6 foot 2 inches tall. Chapman described him as heavy set and wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans at the time of the attack.

Two suspects fled the scene in a blue van and the third in a black sedan, Chapman said. They both headed northbound on Highway 99.
