Two 14-year-old juveniles are in custody on animal cruelty charges after they allegedly killed a dog by hanging it.
Merced police Lt. Bimley West said the youths were initially under investigation for graffiti. While serving a search warrant, the officers learned that the youths had killed the 4-year-old dog, a lab-mix.
The boys placed the dog's body in a duffle bag and discarded it at a storm drain. The officers found the dog's body.
They were booked into juvenile hall on charges of felony vandalism, felony animal cruelty with gang enhancements, West said.
