A woman was badly injured when she fell more than 50 feet from an embankment Sunday in Yosemite National Park, a park official reported.
The woman, whose identity was not released, lost her footing and fell toward the Merced River near Windy Point about 10:30 a.m., said Adrienne Freeman, a spokeswoman for Yosemite National Park. The fall appears to have been accidental, Freeman said. The park sent out an ambulance and a search and rescue team shortly after the accident, Freeman said.
The victim suffered severe head, arm and chest injuries and was taken by ambulance to El Portal and then flown by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, Freeman said.
