Winton man airlifted to Modesto after crash

ATWATER — A 23-year-old Winton man was flown to a Modesto hospital with major injuries Monday, after a collision on Santa Fe Drive, north of Bellevue Road.

The crash happened after the victim, Blong Moua, rear-ended a small bus shortly after 7 a.m. The two occupants of the bus, 55-year-old Gloria Vidales of Merced and 18-year-old Adam Bo, of Merced, weren’t injured, the California Highway Patrol’s Shane Ferriera said.

He said the victim was able to talk to investigators, despite his injuries. Ferriera added that Moua was driving southbound in a 1995 Toyota pickup on Santa Fe Drive at about 50 mph, while the bus was ahead of him, traveling in the same direction, at 10 mph.

The victim briefly looked away from road and collided with the back of the bus. The damage to the victim’s car was major, while the bus suffered only minor damage, Ferriera said.

Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the collision, Ferriera said.
