Video: Duo steal money meant for funeral

Merced County sheriff's detectives are asking the public for help in finding a man and woman who stole money from a store, which was meant to help pay for a friend's funeral expenses.

The crime was reported at the the M and A Market in the 2900 block of Beachwood Ave., where the duo stole a jar of money from a counter inside the store, according to sheriff's spokesman Tom MacKenzie.

The jar was placed there on Dec. 6, and the owner of the market said there was about $200 inside of it. On Dec. 25, however, the victim returned to collect the jar and discovered that it was missing.

The suspects, however, were spotted on video surveillance footage from the store.

The first suspect is described as a white man, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds and wearing a blue jacket.

Investigators said he grabbed the jar after paying for some items on his way out of the store.

The other suspect is described as a white woman, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 220 pounds, with curly brown hair wearing a white shirt.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department is asking for anyone who can identify the suspects or know anything about the incident to call Detective Jason Jacklitsch at (209) 385-7472.
