A 54-year-old Fresno man was identified today as the driver of a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. truck involved in a Madera County collision that killed two teenagers and critically injured a third.
The California Highway Patrol said James Poe was driving the truck south on Road 9 at Avenue 23 1/2 about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when a small pickup truck going east at the intersection failed to stop at a posted sign. The pickup crashed into the right side of the PG&E truck then erupted in flames, the CHP said.
Marvin Bell, 17, of Chowchilla, a passenger in the pickup, managed to climb free of the truck. Two other passengers, who have not been identified, died in the burning wreckage.
The injured motorists were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
