A 15-year-old boy was injured Saturday night in a shooting near the 1500 block of Devonwood Drive, Merced police reported.

The boy told police he and his 17-year-old brother were walking their dog on the north sidewalk of Devonwood Drive, when an unidentified Latino male fired several shots at them, according to Lt. Bimley West.

After being once shot below the waist, the victim and his brother ran to Best Buy, at 1764 W. Olive Ave., where they sought help. Officers arrived at the store shortly before 9:30 p.m., and the victim was flown to a Modesto hospital.

The wounds were not life-threatening and the victim is expected to recover, West said. Nobody is in custody.

The 17-year-old was unharmed, police said.

Police said it's unknown if the crime was gang-related. The victim and his brother are not gang members, West said.
