A 3-year-old Planada boy was treated after he was bitten Wednesday afternoon by a German shepherd mix. The boy had non-life-threatening puncture wounds near the base of his throat and another bite near his eye, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
He was taken to Mercy Medical Center Merced and treated for his injuries. The dog was taken for quarantine by Merced County Animal Control.
The sheriff's department said the boy was petting the dog, and when he turned to leave, the dog bit him. Monica Mendoza, a neighbor of the boy's family, said the dog bit another child earlier this week.
