A man is recovering after being shot early Sunday in the 7000 block of Bobbie Avenue, the Merced County Sheriff's Department reported.
Although the shooting is believed to be gang-related, investigators say there's no indication the victim, a man around his mid-late 20s, is affiliated with any gang.
The two suspects remain at large.
The incident was reported shortly before 1:30 a.m. after the victim, his brother and another person were sitting outside a residence, according to Sgt. Scott Dover.
Two Latino males walked by the residence on the sidewalk and approached the group. The suspects then began saying gang epithets, Dover said.
As the victim turned to walk into the residence, he was shot in the thigh. The suspects then fled the area on-foot, firing several shots indiscriminately as they ran away. No one else was hurt, Dover said.
Dover said the suspects were last seen getting into a light colored SUV-type vehicle.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the victim to the hospital. Dover said the victim's wound didn’t appear life threatening.
