A man carrying a handgun in a local restaurant was arrested after he tried to run away from police early Friday morning.
Police arrived at La Hacienda No. 2 Restaurant on North G Street, just before 1 a.m. Friday after they got reports that a man in the bar area was carrying a handgun. When they approached the man, Gabriel Olvera, in the parking lot, he tried to run, police said. He was caught before he re-entered the restaurant bar area. Officers patted Olvera down, and found a loaded .357 Magnum Ruger tucked into his pants' waistband.
Olvera was booked into Merced County Jail on charges of possessing a concealed handgun and resisting arrest.
