Merced’s Common Read Book Club said it now has about 50 members, all reading “The World Without Us,” and will form discussion groups.
UC Merced will begin promoting the event at libraries, Barnes & Noble and other venues around town. Author Alan Weisman will appear at a book signing and lecture April 1.
The format for each discussion session will be the same, organizers said in a news release. Tom Hothem, writing program assistant director at UC Merced, and Angela Winek a lecturer UC Merced, will lead the sessions.
They will discuss how “The World Without Us” is being used by the university, both by students and how it’s being integrated into the curriculum. Organizers said participants need to attend only one discussion group. They’ve scheduled morning, afternoon and evening session. However, you must reply to Peggy Biddison at email@example.com and let her know which one you will attend so adequate seating can be provided.
You can attend more than one session, space permitting, but be sure to let her know which your first choice is.
