An arrest has been made in the brutal stabbing of a 29-year-old man outside a Merced grocery store last month.
Suspect Abraham Roberto Ayon, 28, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in Los Banos by Merced police and members of the Merced Multi-Agency Gang Task Force.
He was taken into custody without incident after detectives received information Ayon was at a residence in the 400 block of I Street, according to Detective Joe Deliman.
Ayon is accused of stabbing the victim multiple times outside Grocery Outlet, located at 1125 W. Main St.
Police believe the victim was stabbed after interrupting an argument between Ayon and another man in the parking lot of the store around 5 p.m. Feb. 19.
After the victim walked up to the two men, the suspect attacked him, slashing him across the face and stabbing him several times.
Although the victim has been released from the hospital, Deliman said he hasn't fully recovered from his injuries. He suffers from speech problems and is being treated by a speech therapist.
Police said the victim didn't know Ayon before the stabbing.
Ayon was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
