Merced College gets $200K for registered nurse education program

The Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development awarded Merced College $200,000 through the Song-Brown Program, which is administered by the office through the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission.

The money will be used for the college's registered nurse education program. The grants are trying to help encourage a nursing work force that will give expanded access to health care in medically underserved areas.

Fifteen registered nurse programs throughout the state received a total of more than $2 million, and the money is generated through annual fees collected from health facilities.
