A 21-year-old Chowchilla man is in the hospital after being shot early Thursday morning in the 1500 block of Ellen Court in Merced.
Police responded to the scene at 1:22 a.m. and found the victim lying on the ground in the parking lot of an apartment building with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to Lt. Bimley West.
The man, who was still conscious, was flown to a regional hospital. His condition remains unknown.
No one has been arrested.

Police haven't determined a motive and the victim remains in stable condition.
Few details have been released about the suspects. They are described as three Latino males wearing hooded sweatshirts.
