April 06, 2010 12:23 PM

The Merced County Fair will hold a free e-waste recycling event on Saturday and Sunday.

Television sets, computers and other electronic items can be dropped off at the fairgrounds' 11th Street parking lot, near the G Street entrance. The fair is teaming up with the City of Merced's annual Spring Cleanup, scheduled for this weekend and the weekend of April 17-18.

The fairgrounds' e-waste recycling and four spring Cleanup locations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both weekends.

The fairgrounds recycling event will accept only the following items: TVs, computer monitors, LCD screens, plasma screens, laptops, computer towers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, stereo systems, keyboards, computer mice, VCRs, speakers, cell phones and telephones. The E-waste drive is not collecting household appliances such as washers or dryers, but the City will be recycling some appliances for the first time at no charge.

There is no limit on the number of items that can be recycled and they don't have to be in working order.

The City's three other Spring Cleanup drop-off locations are: Merced High School (G Street parking lot), Merced College (near Lehigh Drive parking lot) and Golden Valley High School (Childs Avenue parking lot).

For information, call (209) 722-1507 or send an e-mail to Info@MercedCountyFair.com.
