Voting ends at 5 p.m. today in a contest that will help determine who opens for country singer Phil Vassar when he performs at the Gallo Center for the Arts on April 21.
Twenty-one acts entered the contest sponsored by the Gallo Center and The Modesto Bee, and thousands of votes have been cast.
The Bee will forward the voting results to the Gallo Center, where a panel of judges will determine who will play a roughly 15-minute set before Vassar takes the stage. Gallo officials said they hope to announce the winning performer on Monday.
Anyone wishing to vote in the contest should go to www.modbee.com/contests.
Vassar is on tour promoting his sixth album, "Traveling Circus."
He has written chart-topping songs for himself and for country artists Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina and Collin Raye.
