Two Riggs emergency personnel to be honored at state capitol

Riggs Ambulance Service said two of its emergency medical service (EMS) team members will be honored as Stars of Life at the California State Capitol on Tuesday.

The event, sponsored by the California Ambulance Association honors paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and emergency medical dispatchers (EMDs) who stand out among their peers as the best of the best, the company said in a news release.

Jesse Fernandez, an EMT, and Nakia Garrett, an EMD, will be among 24 EMS professionals receiving the award. They will be presented with a medallion and proclamation recognizing their individual contributions as EMS professionals.

Both employees were selected for their dedication to the service they provide as emergency responders and for being an inspiration to their co-workers, Riggs said in the news release.

Founded in 1948, Riggs Ambulance is the exclusive 9-1-1 paramedic provider for all of Merced County.
