State unveils recreation-mapping website

The California Department of Parks and Recreation announced a website Monday that maps out parks, trails and other recreation lands throughout the state. The FindRecreation site contains data on everything from federal wilderness areas to neighborhood tot lots, according to a press release.

The site, developed with the non-profit organization GreenInfo Network, also details the location of more than 1,300 public campgrounds in California.

To use the site, visit http://findrecreation.parks.ca.gov and enter your home address, city or zip code to find the nearest park lands. By clicking on a particular site, users can view more information, including driving directions and 3D maps. A planned update for the site will allow users to view parking locations, restrooms and viewpoint outlooks.
