Two people were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Medical Center Merced after a crash between two big rigs and a compact car Wednesday night.
Toni Neilson, 57, received minor injuries when her 1994 Ford Escort was crushed by the trucks at Carol Avenue and Yosemite Parkway around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters extracted her from the car using the Jaws of Life. The drivers of one of the trucks, Robert Ceja, 33, also received minor injuries. The other truck driver, Manuel Gutierrez, 55, was not injured.
Police believe that Gutierrez and Neilson were stopped at a traffic light at Yosemite Parkway and East 21st Street, when Ceja crashed his truck into the rear of the Escort, pushing the compact car into Gutierrez's truck. The accident is still being investigated.
Police are asking that witnesses to the accident call traffic sergeant Jay Struble at (209) 385-4739.
