Susan Yang, an FHA-Hero student attending Buhach Colony High School, was elected as FHA-Hero state treasurer at the FHA-Hero State Leadership Meeting in Fresno April 24-27.
FHA-Hero chapter members from all areas in California gathered to participate in the Competitive Recognition Events and attend workshops promoting leadership, career and citizenship development, according to a news release from the school.
Yang has been an active member in Buhach Colony's FHA-Hero chapter for two years. She was this year's treasurer for Region 6, which includes students from 12 area high schools which are official FHA-Hero chapters.
In her new position as a state officer, she and the other four officers from various schools from throughout California will attend officer training in Sacramento May 19-21 to plan goals for next year's FHA-Hero State Leadership meeting. She will also attend the HECT conference in Irvine June 23-25 to meet with California Home Economics Career and Technology teachers, the news release said.
She’ll go to the FCCLA National Leadership Meeting in Chicago July 3-8 where she will meet with other state officers from all parts of the U.S. to attend workshops promoting interpersonal communication, leadership and teamwork skills. they’ll also study ways to develop strategies to promote FHA-Hero membership back in their home states.
Alicia Young, a Buhach Colony teacher, is the school’s FHA-Hero adviser and Region 6 officer coordinator.
