Rock da Block schedules community event June 30 at Christian Life Center

Rock Da Block, a community outreach service through the Christian Life Center, said it will hold its next event June 30 at the center, 650 E. Olive Ave.

The nonprofit said it tries to reach out to Merced's rural areas by providing free events throughout the community. It has sponsored 16 events since 2005 throughout Merced.

The group said it will partner with ComVIP working to reduce violence in the community.

The group said it invites all nonprofit and faith-based organizations to join the event through carnival-type games.

There's no cost for a booth, and start-up time will be 4:30 p.m.

The evening's focus will be "Neighborhood and Fire Safety," and the event will end with a fireworks show to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Rock Da Block asked for snack food items, drinks and raffle gifts to share with the community.

During an event, the surrounding community is provided with food, entertainment, bounce houses, face-painting and resource tables that offer assistance.
