Merced College said its students will be provided with lifetime e-mail accounts that will help them keep connected to the college after they graduate.
"This is part of the services we are providing to our students through Microsoft," said Mike Cuchna, vice president of Technology and Institutional Research. "Through our student portal, our students and alumni can store information such as class work and photos. They'll be able to communicate with each other, as well as stay in contact with what's happening at Merced College."
The service is being provided at no cost to students, Cuchna said.
"Students will be able to use these online services to do priority registration, order transcripts and look up grades. Also, there's a storage repository of 25GB for each student," he said. "That's more than 100 times the information students were previously allowed to have."
More than 37,000 e-mail accounts have been set up, the college said in a news release.
