Permits offered for deer, pig hunts in Western Merced County

The California Department of Fish and Game is accepting applications for special deer and pig hunt permits for Western Merced County.

The application deadline is July 6.

Hunts will be held in the Cottonwood Creek and San Luis wildlife areas on the first two days of the general Zone A deer season.

Applications are limited and will be awarded during a July 11 drawing. Thirty-five permits will be awarded for the Upper Cottonwood Creek Wildlife Area, 12 permits will be distributed for the Lower Cottonwood Creek Wildlife Area, and eight will be awarded for the San Luis Reservoir Wildlife Area.

The permit drawing is open to the public and will be held July 11 at 11 a.m. at DFG's Los Banos Office, 18110 W. Henry Miller Ave. Successful applicants will be notified by mail within five days of the drawing.
