The California Highway Patrol will again participate in the roadcheck campaign sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
The campaign is a nationwide 72-hour focused enforcement period designed to prevent traffic collisions involving commercial vehicles, CHP said in a news release.
Chowchilla River Enforcement facility on Highway 99 and the Santa Nella platform scales on Interstate 5, north of Highway 152, will conduct inspection and enforcement activities in Merced County. The operation will begin today and end Friday.
The CHP said almost 5 million commercial vehicles pass through its inspection facilities each year.
Last year's inspections during the campaign revealed deficiencies in braking, steering, tire, wheel, frame and suspension, unsafe loads and drivers' certifications. Of 974 commercial vehicles inspected, 840 were in compliance; the rest were placed out-of-service for noncompliance.
