The One Book One Merced Committee announced the schedule of appearances for its featured author, Mas Masumoto, and asked for more contributors and sponsors.
“Wisdom of the Last Farmer” is the book that participants will read this summer and fall.
To be recognized as part of the committee, an organization must agree to be listed as a committee; to promote the event; to post a poster; to encourage attendance at events; to encourage sponsorships; and to have at least one person who attended or will commit to attend OBOM meetings.
Organizations that have already done so include the Merced County Library; Friends of the Merced County Public Library; Merced College Foundation; Merced College Library; Friends of the Merced College Library; Merced County Chamber of Commerce; Merced County Historical Society and Museum; Merced AAUW; East Merced Resource Conservation District.
The schedule:Aug. 7, Saturday, Merced College Library; Peach Pie Contest; call Susan Walsh to enter at (209) 384-6082; there will be pie eating, reading from the book and discussion of Masumoto works in lobby from 2 p.m.;Sept. 1-25, Merced County Library Reading and Discussion groups, either late afternoon or Saturday morning;Sept. 29, Wednesday, Merced College, Lesher 111, Masumoto talks about his books and signs them; Merced College, noon, no charge;Sept. 30, Thursday, Branding Iron, Masumoto speaks to the Merced County Chamber quarterly luncheon at noon; charge for lunch yet to be determined.Sept. 30, Thursday, Merced City Council Chambers, Masumoto talks about his books and signs them at 7 p.m., no charge;Oct, 14, Thursday, Livingston, United Methodist Church, Masumoto speaks at a public book signing at 7 p.m., no charge;Oct. 21, Thursday, Merced County Library, 2100 O Street, Library Centennial Gala, Masumoto will speak; tickets required at $10 per person 6-8:30 p.m. and must be over 21 to attend.
Levels of sponsorship include Community Champions ($250 and more); Community Partners ($100-$249); Community Sponsors($50-$99)Committee members will take shifts at the Pic N Gather Saturday in Livingston. Someone will be there selling books and handing out posters.
