Merced County Transit (TheBus) said it was changing Route 14, which provides service in Los Banos.
Starting July 6, Route 14 will be changed to operate as two loops traveling in opposite directions. Route 14 operates in both directions on weekdays, but only counter-clockwise Saturdays.
Buses will operate on a 45-minute frequency. "This change in the way service is provided to our customers on route 14 will provide them with a more direct way to get to their destinations," said Rod Ghearing, transit manager for TheBus.
The newly configured route will continue to serve most of the destinations on the current route, including Kmart, McArthur Apartments, the fairgrounds and county offices, Los Banos Memorial Hospital, Wal-Mart, Los Banos Library and Los Banos High School, the agency said in a news release.
Merced County Transit operates fixed-route services Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Merced County Transit is a joint powers authority composed of the cities of Atwater, Dos Palos, Gustine, Livingston, Los Banos and Merced, as well as the county of Merced. The program is administered by the Merced County Department of Public Works -Transportation Division.
