A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized early Thursday morning after being shot at the softball diamond area of McNamara Park.
No one has been arrested in the case, and Merced police say the shooting is gang-related.
Police responded to the scene, in the 900 block of Canal Street, after receiving a shots-fired call shortly after midnight.
Police found the victim lying face-down with gunshot wounds to his face, hands and leg, according to Lt. Bimley West.
The victim, who was conscious, was flown to a regional hospital.
The suspects were on foot and approached the victim, who was riding his bike through the park with a friend.
The victim suffered major injuries, but police said they're not life-threatening.
The victim's friend was uninjured and was able to call 911.
The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspects, although police say there were two males.
