Karen Arnold, of Merced, submitted the winning slogan for the 2011 Merced County Fair.
Her submission -- "Saddle Up for Fun!" -- will be used as the fair's theme next June. She'll receive $100 for the idea and a pair of season passes to the 2011 fair.
Arnold is a language arts teacher at Atwater's Mitchell Senior Elementary School, where she has worked for 27 years.
Arnold also won the fair slogan competition in 1995 for "Spirit and Pride County Wide" and took third place in 2009 for her entry, "Buzzin' with Fun."
The second-place entry for this year's contest came from Judy Douglas, of Merced, for "The Main Attraction," while third place went to Joy Gort, of Merced, for "Shake, Saddle and Roll." Gort and Douglas will each receive a pair of season passes.
With the theme established, the fair is seeking a graphic design. The deadline to submit entries is 3 p.m. Sept. 24. The winner will receive $500 and a pair of season passes.
The fair's board of directors will select the first-, second- and third-place graphic design winners at its Oct. 18 board meeting. Artists may enter up to three submissions on 8½-by-11-inch paper.
Entries may be submitted to the fairgrounds office, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, or mailed to the Merced County Fair, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Merced, 95341. Submissions should include the entrant's name, address and phone number and a copy of the following statement with a signature: "The logo entry (entries) are the artist's own original, artistic creation and intellectual property."
